Written by Sarah Ruhl. Directed by Steven Jones.

Ultimately a love story that illuminates with a light touch how much control men had over women's lives, bodies and thoughts, even their most intimate sensations. It is 1880 and the dawn of an early electrical appliance used to induce 'paroxysm' as a treatment for women's hysteria. Dr Givings' wife, Christine, is bored, frustrated and growing increasingly curious as to what is going on in the next room.

WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? - Fort Nelson House - November 18 to 29
SELLING VERY FAST - SOME PERFORMANCE HAVE SOLD OUT - LIMITED AVAILABILITY TO SOME OTHER PERFORMANCES!

George is a grizzled academic, wryly intelligent and pithily sarcastic. His highly vocal and critical wife, Martha, despairs for his lack of ambition. Nevertheless, they love each other, tied together by a history of secrets. Nick is young, handsome and ambitious. His wife, Honey, is pitiable and naive. They are completely out of their depth in this a scathingly funny, clever battle of wits.

In an alcohol fuelled battleground, secrets are exposed and we are left to ponder - does the truth destroy or strengthen a relationship?

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf is one of the most significant plays of the 1960's. It was a huge hit when it was first produced in 1962 and spawned a seminal 1960's movie of the same name starring Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor and a very young George Segal. The film was nominated for thirteen Academy Awards and won five.

Performed in situ at the Fort Nelson House in Sandy Bay designed by Tasmania's foremost modernist architect of the post Second World War period, Esmond Dorney, the audience will sit in the lounge room with the play's characters for the entire performance. The Fort Nelson House is one of Hobart's architectural treasures, now in public ownership. It is a perfect, authentic and unusual venue for this classic production

Each child is different and therefore we can only offer broad recommendations about the age suitability of our shows. We would generally advise that children be at least five years old to attend our junior ensemble productions, however they can be enjoyed by pre-school children as young as three.

We request that you consider the comfort of other audience members when deciding whether the performance is suitable for your child. The duration time of each performance is posted on the booking website and this may also help you decide.

Babes-in-arms:
Children aged under 2 years are admitted free of charge and must sit on the lap of the accompanying paying adult.

At the Theatre:
If a child in your care becomes too talkative or restless and is disrupting other patrons enjoyment of the performance, we ask that you take them into the foyer to settle before re-entering the theatre.

Patrons are advised that some shows have special effects such as dry ice and smoke machines, strobe lighting, and loud music and sounds.

The play's the thing...

PLoT Theatre Society celebrates the Bard's 450th birthday with their production of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Hamlet has been portrayed by the giants in English history, from Gielgud and Olivier to Branagh and Tennant

Directed by society regular Tai Gardner, this intimate production is stripped-down and fast paced, its focus firmly upon the troubled prince of Denmark. A tale of murder, madness and revenge exploring the burden of uncertainty in a timeless setting.
