You Can’t Stop the Beat in this big musical about one girl’s inspiring dream to dance and her fight for human rights.
It’s 1962 in Baltimore, and big haired teen Tracy Turnblad has one dream: to dance on The Corny Collins Show. When her wish comes true, after an eventful trip to detention and some help from new friends, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to an overnight star. Using her newfound fame she advocates for racial integration on the show, aims to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen and win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin, all without denting her 'do! The 1950s are out and change is in the air!
The Tony Award-winning Hairspray is a family friendly musical filled with laughter romance and catchy tunes that will have you twisting in the aisles. Rosny College is proud to present this story because of its timely and beautiful message of acceptance and progress which is as important now in 2017 as it was in the 1960s. The bright, energetic story of Tracy Turnblad teaches us all to look past the colour of skin, to fight for every human being’s equal rights and to realise that one person can change the world no matter what they look like.
