ANYTHING GOES - Playhouse Theatre - September 12 to 27
Winner of six Tony Awards, this hilarious show is set in the 1930's aboard the luxury ocean liner SS American en route from New York to England. Onboard is evangelist-turned-nightclub singer Reno Sweeney who discovers the man she adores, Billy Crocker, has stowed away to pursue another girl. But it's far from smooth sailing for Billy, as debutante Hope announces her engagement to wealthy Englishman, Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Joining this unlikely love quadrangle is an unusual collection of passengers with elaborate disguises, mistaken identities and foiled plots - it's non-stop hijinks on the high seas!

Performed by the Crew's senior ensemble with special guest artist John X as multi-millionaire Whitney, Anything Goes features a sensational eight piece band, spectacular tap and dance routines and eminently hummable songs 'I Get a Kick Out Of You', 'De-Lovely', 'You're the top' and 'Anything Goes'.

HAMLET: Heads or Tails - Pop Up Theatre 1 - September 12 to 20
Heads or Tails is an exploration of the ensemble potential of 'Shakespeare's greatest masterpiece'. At the beginning of each performance, actors flip a coin to decide which of two roles they will play for that performance. The actors are alert and ready for anything, and so are the audience. As a country arms itself for war, a family tears itself apart. Forced to avenge his father's death but paralysed by the task ahead, Hamlet rages against the impossibility of his predicament, threatening both his sanity and the security of the state.

Allegri Ensemble presents MADRIGALS & SPIRITUALS - Hobart Town Hall - Saturday September 13 at 8.00pm
Allegri Ensemble is proud to present Madrigals & Spirituals in the beautiful Hobart Town Hall.

Madrigals & Spirituals features the subtle word-painting and sometimes extraordinary harmony of sixteenth century madrigalists from Gibbons to Gesualdo, in secular part-songs dealing with love, death...and birds. Some are well-known, others rarely performed. These are partnered with familiar Spirituals in perhaps not-so-familiar settings.

Musical Director Andrew Bainbridge, Organist of St Mary's Cathedral and Assistant
Chorusmaster of the TSO Chorus, formed the ensemble in 2010 delivering highly
acclaimed performances of Handel's Messiah in 2010 and 2011. The handpicked Allegri Ensemble has grown into a tightly-knit group of committed singers drawn
from many choirs, some of whom are soloists in their own right.

The program includes Jannequin's extended and masterful Le chant des oiseaux, full
of French bird-song; Tromboncino's frottola Non val acqua; the frothy fa-la-la
refrain of Morley's ballet April is in my Mistress' Face; the serpentine part-crossings of Thomas Weelkes' 'O Care, Thou Wilt Despatch Me and Carlo Gesualdo's
Moro lasso; and the sombre moral contemplations of Orlando Gibbons' The Silver
Swan. Also included is one modern madrigal, Phyllida and Corydon by E J Moeran.
Written in 1939, this is the opening movement of a suite of the same name, in what is possibly its first ever Hobart performance.

After interval, the mood changes and the emotions are set free in Spiritual
settings by pioneers Harry T Burleigh and William H Dawson; two British
arrangements by Michael Tippett from his cantata 'A Child of Our Time'; and
modern American settings by Rollo Dilworth and short-lived genius and hero of
the genre, Moses Hogan.

IN THE NEXT ROOM (or The Vibrator Play) - Playhouse Theatre - October 24 to November 8
Written by Sarah Ruhl. Directed by Steven Jones.

Ultimately a love story that illuminates with a light touch how much control men had over women's lives, bodies and thoughts, even their most intimate sensations. It is 1880 and the dawn of an early electrical appliance used to induce 'paroxysm' as a treatment for women's hysteria. Dr Givings' wife, Christine, is bored, frustrated and growing increasingly curious as to what is going on in the next room.

WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? - Fort Nelson House - November 18 to 29
George is a grizzled academic, wryly intelligent and pithily sarcastic. His highly vocal and critical wife, Martha, despairs for his lack of ambition. Nevertheless, they love each other, tied together by a history of secrets. Nick is young, handsome and ambitious. His wife, Honey, is pitiable and naive. They are completely out of their depth in this a scathingly funny, clever battle of wits.

In an alcohol fuelled battleground, secrets are exposed and we are left to ponder - does the truth destroy or strengthen a relationship?

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf is one of the most significant plays of the 1960's. It was a huge hit when it was first produced in 1962 and spawned a seminal 1960's movie of the same name starring Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor and a very young George Segal. The film was nominated for thirteen Academy Awards and won five.

Performed in situ at the Fort Nelson House in Sandy Bay designed by Tasmania's foremost modernist architect of the post Second World War period, Esmond Dorney, the audience will sit in the lounge room with the play's characters for the entire performance. The Fort Nelson House is one of Hobart's architectural treasures, now in public ownership. It is a perfect, authentic and unusual venue for this classic production
