George is a grizzled academic, wryly intelligent and pithily sarcastic. His highly vocal and critical wife, Martha, despairs for his lack of ambition. Nevertheless, they love each other, tied together by a history of secrets. Nick is young, handsome and ambitious. His wife, Honey, is pitiable and naive. They are completely out of their depth in this a scathingly funny, clever battle of wits.

In an alcohol fuelled battleground, secrets are exposed and we are left to ponder - does the truth destroy or strengthen a relationship?

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf is one of the most significant plays of the 1960's. It was a huge hit when it was first produced in 1962 and spawned a seminal 1960's movie of the same name starring Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor and a very young George Segal. The film was nominated for thirteen Academy Awards and won five.

Performed in situ at the Fort Nelson House in Sandy Bay designed by Tasmania's foremost modernist architect of the post Second World War period, Esmond Dorney, the audience will sit in the lounge room with the play's characters for the entire performance. The Fort Nelson House is one of Hobart's architectural treasures, now in public ownership. It is a perfect, authentic and unusual venue for this classic production

PLoT Theatre Society presents William Shakespeare's HAMLET - Friday December 5 - Saturday December 13 - Peacock Theatre
Written by William Shakespeare Directed by Tai Gardner

The play's the thing...

PLoT Theatre Society celebrates the Bard's 450th birthday with their production of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Its popularity has endured the ages, its language, themes and questions a constant companion to each generation of actors and audiences. Hamlet has been portrayed by the giants in English history, from Gielgud and Olivier to Branagh and Tennant

Directed by society regular Tai Gardner, this intimate production is stripped-down and fast paced, its focus firmly upon the troubled prince of Denmark. A tale of murder, madness and revenge exploring the burden of uncertainty in a timeless setting.

Shakespeare in Gardens - THE COMEDY OF ERRORS - Botanical Gardens - February 6 to 28
Directions Theatre Pty Ltd presents the Hilarious Shakespeare Comedy
THE COMEDY OF ERRORS.

Popular Director Ingrid Ganley is back in the gardens! With successes such as "Mousetrap","Noises Off", "Black Coffee" and "Phantom of the Opera" under her belt, Hobart's best loved director is returning to the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens to direct Shakespeare's "The Comedy of Errors".

The Comedy of Errors is Shakespeare's first comedy, and definitely one of his funniest. The comedy is fast and furious, the plot gets wilder and wilder as the play moves to its climax. Done in Bollywood style this production promises plenty of colour and movement.

Pandemonium ensues when two sets of twins, separated in a shipwreck when babies, meet up twenty-five years later in the town of Ephesus. Mistaken identities create farcical confusion in one of Shakespeare's most hysterical comedies - The Comedy of Errors.

On the Ground - bring your own blanket, picnic, wine, drinks and warm clothing.
